If you are facing a bond hearing without a lawyer, you may be risking higher expenses and financial difficulties. Many people concentrate on the need for a lawyer for the underlying criminal charge, ignoring how a criminal attorney can help them in this critical moment. Most people who have been arrested are entitled to a bond hearing, but some individuals choose to wait to find a lawyer until after they have been released. Without a lawyer by your side, you may be forced to post a higher bond or even denied the possibility of release.
At The Law Offices of David Golden, P.A., we understand how important it is to get home and prepare for the legal difficulties ahead, and we’ve been able to help our clients set a reasonable bail and quick release for more than 20 years. Is It Worth Getting a Lawyer for Bail Bonds?
Some people assume that a lawyer cannot help with bond issues. It is true that there will be a recommendation for the judge to consider for bail when the accused has their initial appearance, but the expected bond is often too high for individuals to cover and may leave them in a precarious financial position when they already have to worry about the charges against them. Other individuals may find the judge is reluctant to allow bail at all.
A criminal attorney can use the law and strategic arguments to help reduce bail or make sure it’s on the table in the first place. A lawyer can assuage doubts the judge might have about setting bail and can show the difficulties the accused would have in raising funds. A criminal lawyer will also know the courts, know the judges, and know the prosecutors, and so they will know the arguments that work best in the scenario the accused finds themselves in.

Available Bail Bonds
People typically have three bond options in Florida:
- Cash Bond — An alleged offender must pay the entire bond in cash in order to be released. The bond may be returned to the person at the conclusion of their case, but an individual forfeits the bond if they fail to appear in court.
- Release on Recognizance (ROR) Bond — An alleged offender is released after simply signing an agreement to appear in court in the future. No money is paid for release, but the agreement may have a cash value assigned if the individual does not appear in court.
- Surety Bond — A surety bond agent or “bondsman” charges a non-refundable fee (often about 10 percent of the total bond) for posting your bond and becomes liable for the entire bond amount in the event that the alleged offender does not appear in court.
In some cases, a judge may add a Nebbia Hold as a condition of bond. A Nebbia Hold is used in cases in which the money used to pay bond may have been acquired from illegal activities such as drug dealing, and an alleged offender or bond co-signer is required to produce evidence that the funds came from legitimate sources.
